Advisory Meetings

Advisory class meetings are held on Wednesdays each week, during which time students in each grade level meet with their advisors.

Purpose
The purpose of Advisory is to prepare all students to successfully transition to college after graduating from Career High School. The College Summit curriculum is the main focus of the weekly Advisory period. In addition to College Summit, time in the Advisory meetings is set aside for students and advisors to work on creating and building student portfolios.

Student Portfolios
All students, starting with freshmen, will prepare a portfolio of their best work that demonstrates they have made progress towards proficiency in each of the 21st Century Competencies listed below. By senior year, students will have demonstrated proficiency in all six competencies.

Learn about the Student Portfolios in the presentation below:

Classroom teachers will assist students to create their portfolios by helping students identify work appropriate for the competencies and their portfolios. There will be time set aside during the Advisory period for students and advisors to review and reflect on student's progress towards building their portfolios.

Each year, students are expected to add at least seven pieces of work to their portfolio.
